Report on Health Services and Programs at Laghrour University Abbes Laghrour University, located in Khenchela, Algeria, has integrated a broad and impactful approach to sustainability, social welfare, and community development. Central to its mission, the university has digitized the meal service across all dining facilities, including campus and central restaurants, effectively minimizing food waste and enhancing service efficiency. This initiative aligns with its vision to create an environmentally responsible campus where resources are utilized wisely and waste is minimized. A dedicated team actively monitors food waste levels, ensuring that the dining facilities operate efficiently and sustainably. This systematic approach has created a noticeable impact, significantly reducing food waste across campus  Currently, the university provides accommodation for 8,596 students, including seven international students from Mali and Mauritania, who benefit from a diverse and inclusive campus environment. Recognizing that food security is essential to student well-being, Abbas Laghrour University has implemented a targeted program to address food insecurity. This initiative includes awareness campaigns, titled “Hunger-Free Campus,” designed to promote awareness about food security, foster responsible consumption, and ensure that no student experiences hunger on campus. University dining facilities are regularly inspected to uphold quality standards, promoting a safe and supportive environment for students    In addition to addressing food security, the university ensures that meals provided on campus are balanced and sustainable. Each meal includes a selection of red meat, white meat, a variety of vegetables, and fruits to provide students with nutritionally rich options. These meals are offered at symbolic prices, making them accessible to all students, which contributes to an inclusive campus environment where dietary needs and health are prioritized. Moreover, the university’s commitment to inclusivity is reflected in its policy of offering free education to all students, irrespective of their social or financial background. This state-supported policy allows anyone with a high school diploma to access higher education, effectively eliminating financial barriers and providing equal opportunities for academic and professional development   Agricultural Production Improvement Projects:2 The scientific research conducted by the faculty members of Abbas Laghrour University in Khenchela reflects a significant interest in developing the agricultural sector and preserving the environment in Algeria. Their studies encompass a variety of approaches, including laboratory research and field studies. On the laboratory side, researchers have presented advanced studies on improving livestock production by examining the effects of methane inhibitors on the fermentation process, as detailed in a publication in the journal Biocatalysis and Agricultural Biotechnology. In the realm of field studies, researchers focused on the agricultural dynamics in the Ziban region, particularly concentrating on the El-Ghoras area as a case study. Additionally, their research addressed the complex issue of balancing increased agricultural productivity with the preservation of biodiversity, which was presented at the First International Symposium on Organic Agriculture and Sustainable Development. These studies reflect the university’s commitment to contributing to the development of the agricultural sector while considering environmental, economic, and social dimensions. :B. Faculty Publications 1. :Research in National Journals on Food Security As part of the effective contribution of Abbas Laghrour University in achieving sustainable development goals, the university has adopted a university training research project (PRFU) on “The Role of the Agricultural Sector in Achieving Sustainable Food Security in Algeria.” This project serves as a model for the university’s approach to applied scientific research that addresses issues of sustainable development, particularly the second goal related to ending hunger and achieving food security. The project is characterized by a comprehensive approach that combines theoretical foundations and field studies, analyzing the reality of the agricultural sector and evaluating the government policies in place while providing practical solutions for the development of this strategic sector. Furthermore, the project strengthens partnerships between the university and various stakeholders in the agricultural sector, exemplifying the university’s role as a driver of sustainable development by linking scientific research to national development challenges and finding innovative solutions   2. :International Studies on Modern Agricultural Technologies The Department of Agricultural Sciences manages educational and research activities related to the field of agricultural sciences and biotechnology. This field is particularly important due to the agricultural nature of the region. For instance, the Food Technology and Quality Control specialization contributes to improving food product quality and increasing food security through the application of modern quality monitoring techniques. Additionally, the Plant Biotechnology specialization aids in developing drought-resistant crops, thereby enhancing sustainable agriculture in arid regions. The Basic and Applied Ecology specialization also plays a role in studying and protecting local ecosystems. Through these programs, the university can effectively contribute to enhancing environmental and social sustainability by collaborating with the local community and promoting scientific research   :C. Research Team Outputs 1. :Reports on Sustainable Agriculture Projects Research teams prepare comprehensive reports on sustainable agriculture projects aimed at improving traditional farming techniques. These reports analyze methods used in farming, such as organic agriculture and diverse crops, and examine their impact on productivity and soil quality. Furthermore, they highlight the applications of information technology in agriculture, such as precision farming systems, that help reduce waste and increase efficiency. The reports also provide recommendations for local agricultural policies and new trends to improve agricultural sustainability in the region.   2. :Studies on Improving Food Quality Research teams conduct in-depth studies on how to enhance food quality, from production stages to processing and distribution. These studies involve analyzing nutritional components and applying new techniques such as nanotechnology in food preservation. The research also focuses on evaluating the impact of environmental and economic factors on food product quality. These studies contribute to the development of new quality monitoring standards, promoting food safety and protecting consumer health.   3. :Research in Agricultural Technology Research in agricultural technology encompasses the development of innovative solutions to improve crop productivity. Sdg1: No Poverty Free university study Our university’s policy is based on free education, which contributes to accepting students in the various specializations available at our university based on the department and baccalaureate grade obtained by the student. The financial capabilities of those wishing to study have no effect on their acceptance because our university adopts a series of free education for all. University financial aid: In the context of eliminating financial disparities in the academic aspect of our students, our university relies on a policy of free university education, in addition to providing financial aid to every student whose parents’ income does not exceed 08 times the guaranteed national minimum wage of 20,000 DZD per month. To obtain the university grant, the student submits an application on the platform designated for grant applications via the PROGRES system line) at the beginning of each academic year via the link:  https:progres.mesrs.dz/webonou Each student registered in a higher education department benefits from a university studies grant during his/her academic career estimated at: 4050 DZD or 3600 DZD or 2700 DZD depending on the total annual income of the parents • To be registered in a higher education institution. • To not have a study delay equivalent to 04 semesters. • The grant excludes any other financial allocation. • The parents’ income does not exceed 08 times the guaranteed national minimum wage of 20,000 DZD per month. • To be pursuing his/her studies regularly (i.e. not having an academic break or his/her total mark in the current year equals zero).   The policy is to enable all students to study in the same conditions. نظَّمت مصلحة النشاطات الثقافية والعلمية بكلية العلوم والتكنولوجيا سلسلةً من الفعاليات احتفاءً بذكرى مجازر 8 مايو 1945، والتي تُعدُّ من الأحداث التاريخية المؤلمة في الذاكرة الجزائرية والعالمية. جاءت هذه الأنشطة بهدف إحياء الذكرى وتكريم ضحايا هذه المجازر، بالإضافة إلى نشر الوعي التاريخي وتعزيز قيم السلام والتسامح بين الأجيال الجديدة. من أبرز الفعاليات التي شملتها الاحتفالية: معارض صور ووثائق: عُرِضَت فيها مواد أرشيفية نادرة تعكس فظائع الأحداث وشهادات ناجين. عروض أفلام وثائقية: عُرِضَت أفلام توثق شهادات حية وتُقدِّم تحليلًا لأهمية الذاكرة الجماعية في بناء الهوية. ورشات فنية: رَسَمَ طلاب أعمالًا فنية تعبر عن رفض العنف وترسيخ قيم الإنسانية. وقفات إحياء الذكرى: تضمنت دقائق صمت ووضع أكاليل زهور رمزية تكريمًا للضحايا. هذه المبادرات تُبرز دور المؤسسات الأكاديمية في الحفاظ على الذاكرة التاريخية وربطها بالحاضر، كما تؤكد على أهمية التعليم والفنون في تعزيز الحوار والتفاهم بين الشعوب. ولا شك أن مثل هذه النشاطات تُسهم في تخليد ذكرى الضحايا وبناء مستقبلٍ يُكرس العدالة والكرامة الإنسانية.    ...اقرأ أكثر
