Research axes

More specifically, the Applied Biology Research Laboratory aims to achieve the following objectives: • Scientific: – Identification of new natural substances with biological and/or pharmacological activities of socio-economic interest. – Contribution to the knowledge of national biological resources and research on animal species of economic, medical, agricultural, and veterinary interest. – Contribution to improving public health through epidemiological monitoring of the most common diseases in the region. – Evaluation of the impact of pesticides on various environmental components and public health. • Economic: – Inventory and identification of bioresources of economic interest, development of low-cost bioremediation techniques with high economic efficiency, and prevention of transmissible diseases. • Technological: – Improvement and development of methods for studying living organisms. – Nature Conservation: Use of bioresources that preserve the environment, biomonitoring of environmental quality, determination of pollution levels, and assessment of the ecotoxicological risks of these pollutants on animals and public health. Topics Covered by the Proposed Laboratory: • Inventory of animal biodiversity, identification of hotspots, and conservation strategies for endangered species and habitats in the Aurès region (northeastern Algeria). • Identification of animal species with biological and ecological potential, as well as bioindicators of natural environment quality. • Insect farming for animal feed. • Biological tools for pollutant degradation (bioremediation). • Identification of new natural substances with biological and/or pharmacological activities of socio-economic interest, extracted from oils and plant extracts used in traditional medicine in the Aurès region. • Genetic, molecular, and epidemiological study of various diseases that massively affect local populations and whose causes remain poorly understood, such as cancer and cystic fibrosis.
