Around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe damage to human health, societies, and economies. It is a zoonotic disease, meaning it is transmitted from animals to humans. While it may be the most serious one we have experienced, it is not the first. Zoonotic diseases are infections caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi, and prions that are naturally transmitted between animals and humans. As a result, zoonoses represent a vast and heterogeneous group of diseases, characterized by the diverse interactions between humans and animals. By controlling animal diseases, we can help protect livestock, human populations, and entire economies.

The team’s activity will focus on foodborne zoonoses as well as infections transmitted by arthropod vectors (ticks, etc.).

The challenge is to contribute to the protection of animal and public health (the “One Health” concept) through the development of innovative methods for screening, diagnosis, and surveillance, as well as the integrated control of pathogens, particularly zoonotic ones, whether emerging or not, in domestic and/or wild animals.
