The journal of our laboratory has been named ‘Al-Raqq el-Manshour’ because of the connotations of this name in the field of heritage and civilization, which corresponds to the interests of the Lab and its areas of research. Al-Raqq is the skin that was laminated until it became a material suitable for writing. It accompanied the first productions of knowledge in the Arab-Islamic civilisation as a support material for manuscripts and other texts, the first and most honoured of which is the Koranic text, and remained as such for a long time until it gradually gave way to paper, as the books of interpretation indicate, Al-Manshur is as follows: ‘Al-Manshur: This name is also taken from the Holy Qur’an, where it is mentioned in the third verse of Surah Al-Tur (By the mount (`aṭ-ṭûru) (1) And [by] a book inscribed (2) In an open scroll (3)). We seek in this name the blessing of the Holy Qur’an to indicate the dimension of the synonymy of science and codification and to facilitate the appearance of codification and the product of knowledge to the honourable reader in the best possible manner. The creation of the Revue d’Arak El Manchour Édité is an effort to present a bouquet of research and studies that shed light on various aspects of Islamic heritage – and of the humanities in general – and of Algerian civilisation. From the ancient history of Algeria and its medieval period, when Islam shone brightly, to the modern and contemporary periods, via the various cultural influences that have contributed to the formation of the Algerian identity, we are honoured to open the field to researchers to submit their articles and serious studies in vast and important fields such as manuscripts and their sciences, archaeology and related Islamic architecture, the traditional arts, sciences and knowledge that have flourished in Islamic civilisation, as well as the customs and traditions that have characterised our societies. In presenting this journal, we hope to make it a scientific reference and a source of inspiration for researchers and people interested in scientific, cultural and civilisational heritage in general, and to open up new horizons for scientific dialogue and debate on Algerian, Islamic and human heritage in general; we hope that this journal will be the start of a scientific career rich in distinguished contributions, and a building block in efforts to preserve heritage and present it to future generations in a spirit of openness and renewal. A semi-annual, peer-reviewed international journal published by the Laboratory for Historical Studies and Research in Heritage and Civilization.
