Team 4: Applied Microbiology And Toxicology

HALASSI Ismahan (Team Leader) HANOUN Saida (Member) YAKHLEF Wahiba (Member)   Microorganisms populate our entire environment. They are present in the air, water, and on all objects around us. Some are beneficial, and humans have long learned to use certain microorganisms to their advantage (e.g., food production, antibiotics). However, many microorganisms are also pathogenic. Our applied microbiology team studies microbial biodiversity and its significance in today’s economic world. The team focuses on four major fields: Human and Animal Health, Agri-Food, Environment, and Industry. We are interested in microorganisms for their own biological properties (e.g., cells, proteins), for their products (e.g., exo-enzymes, antibiotics), and for their ability to transform and degrade certain substances to produce useful compounds or to clean up the environment. Our research aims to deepen the understanding of microbial ecology, food microbiology, bacteriology, biotechnology, and biological control, ultimately promoting health and preserving the environment. Toxicology examines substances that may harm human, animal, and environmental health, such as agricultural inputs, pesticides, mycotoxins, packaging migrants, and other food contaminants. It also explores their effects and investigates control and prevention methods. The team’s work is structured around two main areas:   Understanding the diversity, function, and regulation of microbial life at different study scales (molecular, cellular, and ecosystem), exploring its interactions with the environment and associations with other organisms, and developing innovative biotechnological solutions. Detecting toxic substances and evaluating their long-term effects on human and animal health, as well as studying their fate and ecological impact....اقرأ أكثر

Team 3: Zoonoses And Vector-borne Diseases

FERROUDJ Sana (Team Leader) MAAMAR Hichem (Member) BOUSSAA Abdelhalim (Member)   Around the world, the COVID-19 pandemic has caused severe damage to human health, societies, and economies. It is a zoonotic disease, meaning it is transmitted from animals to humans. While it may be the most serious one we have experienced, it is not the first. Zoonotic diseases are infections caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi, and prions that are naturally transmitted between animals and humans. As a result, zoonoses represent a vast and heterogeneous group of diseases, characterized by the diverse interactions between humans and animals. By controlling animal diseases, we can help protect livestock, human populations, and entire economies. The team’s activity will focus on foodborne zoonoses as well as infections transmitted by arthropod vectors (ticks, etc.). The challenge is to contribute to the protection of animal and public health (the “One Health” concept) through the development of innovative methods for screening, diagnosis, and surveillance, as well as the integrated control of pathogens, particularly zoonotic ones, whether emerging or not, in domestic and/or wild animals....اقرأ أكثر

Team 1: Management, Protection, and Conservation of Biodiversity

ELAFRI Ali (Team Leader) AICHE Mohamed Amine (Member) AROUA Khaoaula (Member)   Natural ecosystems such as forests, savannas, grasslands, rangelands, deserts, tundras, rivers, lakes, and seas are living proof of Earth’s biological diversity. Agricultural fields and gardens also hold significant importance as biodiversity reserves. The degradation of global biodiversity is mainly due to habitat destruction, over-cultivation, pollution, and the harmful introduction of foreign plants and animals. In fact, the current degradation is primarily a result of human activity, posing a severe threat to human life. The objectives and activities of the MPCB team presented here are generally aimed at: Inventorying animal biodiversity and identifying hotspots for the conservation of endangered species and their habitats in the Aurès region. Identifying animal species with biological and ecological potential, as well as bioindicators of natural environment quality. Insect farming for animal feed and determining biological tools for pollutant degradation (bioremediation). Mapping natural environments with high biological and ecological potential. Team 3: Protection Of Bio-resources

Algeria contains a very large diversity of plant bioresources (species and varieties), given that it occupies a strategic geographical position in the world and is characterized by a di-versity of reliefs and bioclimatic levels. However, these plant species (cultivated or in for-ests) are subject to damage due to biotic factors (such as insect pests, weeds and phytopath-ogenic microorganisms) or abiotic factors (such as climatic factors). To address these con-straints, the study of the characteristics related to these factors (including the study of the bioecology of pests, the pathogenicity of pathogens, inventory of crop enemies, etc.) and the testing of alternative methods of controlling bioaggressors, can contribute significantly to the protection of plant bioresources. In this context, the main objective of our team is to study the different aspects related to plant protection (inventory of important bioaggressors, their bio-ecology, control, etc.), in particular the dominant crops in the Khenchela region. Team 1:mechanical Behavior Of Thermoplastic Composites And Deposition Of Thin Layers By Magnetron Cathode Sputtering

Team leader: Pr. Djebaili Hamid Lines of research Team01 a) Plastics (CNEPRU 2015-2018) Plastics are present in all areas of human activity, from packaging to interplanetary rockets. This primacy of plastics over other materials is due, apart from their low price, to the fact that there is not a single form of plastic but a multitude, each with particular properties. In addition, the manufacturing processes, which make it possible to obtain the most complex shapes easily and without machining, are varied. They were thus able to create multiple monomers and, in collaboration with physicists and mechanics, manufacture them on a very large scale while ensuring extreme purity, invent catalytic polymerization processes and, finally, develop entirely new machines.   b) Thin layers (PRFU 2018-2021) The objective of our research is focused on improving the mechanical, structural and tribological properties of thin layers deposited on steel substrate by magnetron sputtering: -Characterization of ZrN and VN thin layers deposited on steel substrate by magnetron sputtering -Study of the mechanical, structural and tribological behavior of thin MoN and VN layers deposited on steel substrate by magnetron sputtering -Study of the mechanical behavior of binary layers by covering and finite element simulation -Study of the tribological behavior of thin layers (MoVN and ZrVN) deposited by PVD. Concerns should be considered: Functionality and integrity of these thin layers: tribological properties (friction, wear, etc.) and impact of complex environments and production processes on their behavior Breaking interfaces Nanotribology and adhesion mechanisms Resistance of coatings under varied conditions Tribology and sustainability c) Nitriding (PRFU 2021-2024) The objective of our project is focused on the influence of the parameters of the nitriding process on the morphology and nature of the nitrided layers;this process makes it possible to create a diffusion layer with a high nitrogen content in solid solution without precipitation of nitrides in order to maintain the corrosion resistance properties.Furthermore, theone of the objectives of this project is to better understand the interactions between nitrogen and carbon during nitrocarburization treatments of austenitic stainless steels (for example): — -Study of the structural, mechanical and tribological behavior of stainless steels nitrided by plasma. -Study of the mechanical and tribological behavior of 42CrMo4 steels nitrided by gas and salt bath. – Influence of the type of nitriding process on the metallurgical properties (structural, mechanical and tribological) of stainless steel and 42CrMo4. -Study of the tribological behavior of 42CrMo4 steels nitrided by gas and salt bath methods and comparison.    ...اقرأ أكثر
