🔹 PRFU Research Project: The Food Security Dilemma and Challenges of Economic Progress in Algeria
This research project, titled “The Food Security Dilemma and Challenges of Economic Progress in Algeria”, aims to study the risks, opportunities, and challenges related to food security in Algeria amid a global context marked by escalating crises.
- Theoretical objectives: Understanding the geopolitical dynamics of global crises and their impact on food security through analysis of Algeria’s economic structure and its potential for investment openness instead of reliance on rent.
- Research framework: Develop a new research framework reflecting Algeria’s geopolitical position and enhancing national security.
- Practical objectives: Link scientific research to the national vision for food security development, study the effects of global crises on this vital sector, and raise public awareness of economic challenges and opportunities related to food security. The project contributes to sustainable development and strengthens the competitiveness of the national economy.

These studies aim to evaluate the effectiveness of health awareness and education programs, such as vaccination campaigns and early disease detection, and explore ways to encourage healthy behaviors among individuals to help reduce disease prevalence.

Faculty Publications
Faculty members publish their research in local medical journals, including publications from the “Biotechnology, Water, Environment, and Health” Laboratory, established by Ministerial Decree No. 872 dated October 1, 2018. - Investigating various detoxification genes to understand the molecular basis of interactions between environment, genetics, and cancer.

Regarding sexual and reproductive health services, these are offered indirectly through general health awareness activities covering topics such as physical and mental health, education on the prevention of infectious diseases, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
For specialized medical services in this field, students seeking such care are referred to specialized public health institutions in coordination with the university’s Preventive Medicine Service.

Does your university have a “smoke-free” policy?
Yes, Abbes Laghrour University Khenchela implements a smoke-free policy across the campus to ensure a healthy and safe environment for students and staff.
Smoking is prohibited in public areas according to Executive Decree No. 285-01 dated 6 Rajab 1422 AH (September 24, 2001), which defines public spaces where tobacco use is forbidden and the procedures for enforcing this ban. This decree reinforces Law No. 05-85 dated 26 Jumada I 1405 AH (February 16, 1985) concerning the protection and promotion of health, as amended, particularly Article 63.
In 2016, the Minister of Higher Education, Taher Hajar, issued a decision specifying the implementation of the smoking ban in institutions and facilities under the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. Smoking is prohibited in administrative offices, meeting rooms, cafés, restaurants, lecture halls, classrooms, applied work labs, the library, faculty rooms, internet rooms, clubs, the Preventive Medicine Unit, student rooms, reading rooms, university residence wings, and sports halls.
