Sdg12: Responsible Consumption And Production

Aligning with broader sustainability goals, the university has instituted ethical and environmental policies related to waste management and resource conservation. In collaboration with the Hamma Municipality and the Technical Landfill Center in Baghai, the university has established effective waste management practices that include recycling and waste reduction efforts. These policies are not only instrumental in reducing the environmental impact but also serve as educational tools that involve students in sustainability practices. Daily and weekly measurements are conducted to monitor waste levels, revealing an average daily production of 57 kg of waste. Of this amount, approximately 30 kg is recycled, focusing particularly on plastic materials, while 27 kg is sent to the landfill. This proactive approach not only reduces waste but also fosters environmental consciousness within the university community.  In furthering these sustainability efforts, Abbas Laghrour University has taken concrete steps to reduce single-use items, collaborating with student scientific clubs and promoting environmentally friendly practices within various student activities, including sports. These collaborations with college clubs encourage students to take active roles in environmental conservation, building a sense of responsibility towards sustainable practices. The university has also established partnerships with private institutions to support student entrepreneurs, enabling them to develop and launch projects aligned with environmental and social sustainability goals.  The university’s efforts extend beyond campus life, contributing to the broader community in various ways. It offers housing, meals, and transportation services to low-income students, enabling them to continue their studies without financial strain. The support services are extensive; for instance, the university provides housing to nearly 1,983 students within campus residences and transport services to over 10,639 students. These provisions underscore the university’s dedication to facilitating education for all, including those from underprivileged backgrounds. Furthermore, Abbas Laghrour University has established scholarship programs for students from neighboring countries, other Arab nations, and friendly countries, thus fostering international collaboration and supporting students from diverse cultural and economic backgrounds      Through these initiatives, the university has demonstrated a strong commitment to sustainable development and social equity. By offering free education and fostering an inclusive environment, it paves the way for students from different regions to access higher education without the constraints of financial barriers. In addition to academic support, the university organizes free workshops, study days, and field trips aimed at enhancing students’ academic and professional skills.  These efforts are systematically documented in the university’s sustainability report, published annually to highlight progress and identify areas for improvement. This report presents data on waste reduction, recycling rates, and other environmental initiatives, providing a transparent overview of the university’s sustainability achievements.
