Digitizing Master’s Thesis Defenses
The world is witnessing a rapid digital revolution that has reshaped major sectors, and higher education and scientific research have not been immune to this transformation. Theses and dissertations are considered the most valuable intellectual treasure for universities, encapsulating years of research and analysis. With the increasing number of graduates, the traditional (paper-based) management of these documents has become a significant logistical burden. This is where digitization emerges as a lifeline, moving universities from the paper-based era to the era of free information flow. By digitization, we mean converting theses and dissertations from their traditional physical form (papers and folders) into digital media (files in formats such as PDFs or electronic databases), and then making them available through open access repositories or platforms—such as the pedagogical platform—thus facilitating access, content searching, and long-term preservation. The benefits of this transformation are numerous, encompassing students, professors, and the university itself: Facilitating access and scientific research: Instead of physically going to the university library and manually searching through shelves, researchers can now access thousands of theses with the click of a button from anywhere in the world. Preserving documentary heritage: Paper is susceptible to damage, humidity, and fire. Digitization ensures the permanence of these scholarly works through cloud backup. Combating plagiarism: When theses are uploaded to digital platforms, plagiarism detection software (such as Turnitin or PlagScan) can easily compare texts and ensure academic integrity. Saving space and reducing costs: Most universities suffer from limited storage space in their libraries. Digitization frees up this space and saves on printing and binding costs. Increasing university visibility: Publishing theses digitally raises the global ranking of Abbas Laghrour University of Khenchela, as it demonstrates the actual volume of scientific output. The digitization of graduation thesis defenses is no longer an option but a fundamental pillar for building a smart university. It is the bridge that connects internal academic production with the global scientific community. To ensure the success of this strategy, the pedagogical platform has been updated with features such as master’s thesis defenses, investment in technological infrastructure, training of human resources, and, most importantly, instilling a digital culture in students, so that they become partners in creating this knowledge transformation. ... اقرأ أكثر
